I must be feeling nostalgic today.  Pete was another one of my boyfriends in grade school.  What fun he was!  He was a great athlete, very funny, and had a great disposition.  We walked home hand in hand many an afternoon....and in those days was quite an unusual sight! I remember in jr high he had asked Mike Hellenthal to ask me why I wasn't liking him as a boyfriend any more.  He thought it was because he was black.  I remember laughing when Mike told me that.  I told Mike to be sure and tell Pete that I knew he was black all along.....but I was interested in "older" guys at the time. The last time I saw Pete was the day of his death.  For some reason, we went to the school to pick up our report cards.  He came bounding around the corner as I was leaving and flashed me that great grin of his.....just grinned and said "hi".  I'll always remember his great smile.  Some of us went to Burlington later that day......I think Sharon Scholl was driving her convertible.....and we heard the news of his accidental drowning on the radio.  We all cried. I miss him to this day. Remember the "First Grandee" and the "Second Grandee"?  Mrs. Marion, the principal of Jefferson, always said the word "grand".  The guys picked up on that, and started calling themselves "Grandees".  Pete was the first and David Lane was the second! Oh my, why do I remember that?  These guys were so special!

I remember how funny Pete was!  Clear back in 7th grade Pete hung my nickname on me and it has stuck ever since. "Tinkerbell". I will also always remember his great smile and also his giggle. He was so cute and left us all too soon. We have missed you Pete all these years. I wonder what you would be doing today if you were still here.
