It's me again.....I challenge anyone to write on here more than me......

Larry & I toured the Ameren Electirc power plant in Keokuk, IA this afternoon. Guess who we saw, well lots of people we know, but ran into (not literally) Georgia & Ed Merschman and walked all over w/them. Really enjoyed our visit together. Lots of pictures of the whole project of building the dam dam and the power house. Since Larry had worked on a power plant on the Alabama River, when we lived  down there, he could answer SOME of the questions. It is so amazing how it was done back in the early 1900's. Larry's Mother's Father helped, w/his team of horses, from the IL side of the river. We saw several barges go thru the locks. The last time I was out in the power house was the summer of '93. The big flood, we worked in Keokuk, and we had to walk across the dam, thru the power house, across the locks, then across railroad tracks, and up the hill of over 200 steps. Brings back a lot of memories....I had to do that to attend a funeral in Burlington, Don Merritt (Connie Lou's husband) had passed away. She was very surprised to see us. There weren't any bridges were open across the Mississippi between Dubuque, IA & St. Louis, MO for quite a while.

Well. that's what I did today.....how 'bout you???

Linda

Marcia Conley (Davis)

Hi, Everyone!

I spent this past Saturday attending a pre-July 4th event at Mosby's Winery in Buellton, north of Santa Barbara. I drove with 3 older lovely ladies I have known for many years.  They are in their 80's, so I am the "baby".  It is so wonderful to see them enjoying life to the fullest and still physically able to do so.  I wanted to put the top down on my 2011 E350 Mercedes but they wre afraid their hair would blow.  How cute!

I love to drive to Maibu, San Diego and Santa Barbara with the top down.  The ocean and beaches are so beautiful and serene!

Mosby's Winery has a annual July 4th celebration and includes Vandenburg AFB in a retirement of the flag ceremony.  Very emotional!  When our flag is tattered and beyond repair, it is retired by burning in a barrel filled with different kinds of wood (each wood has a meaning), folded, saluted and dropped into the barrel.  You should have seen the veterans, young and old, participating.  The Winery has a lovely BBQ and wine tasting throughout the afternoon.  I was the DD so had to watch my wine intake but bought a case and enjoyed when I got home (not the entire case).  Ha! Ha!

Getting ready to travel for our tax utility software company next week.  Fly back and forth to Sacramento and San Jose and drive locally to Burbank, Orange and San Diego.  These seminars are done jointly with my best friend's company, Spidell Publishing Seminars.

Then to Las Vegas twice, once for the IRS Forum (6,000 attendees) and then for the National Tax Practice Institute of which I am a graduate fellow.

Our software is used by tax professionals throughout the country.  We have over 100,000 users of one of our programs.  We have 14 programs.  It is utility software, not preparation software.

Travel starts Monday and ends August 7 with the week of July 23 not traveling.  Love those hotel points and airline miles!

We are having lovely Southern CA beach weather.  Overcast and cool in the morning, sunny in the afternoon and cool in the evening when the sun goes down.

Have a wonderful and safe July 4th.

Marci'a (Conley) Davis

Marci'a....you sound like you are enjoying life to the fullest...good for you. Would love to ride w/you w/the top down. I love to drive my Jag w/the top down, but it's been too hot here lately. Who cares about hair. That's one of the reasons I keep mine short!!! Hope you have a great summer, what's left of it, enjoy all the traveling. Remember, IF & WHEN you make it back home, let us know......take care, Linda

Hi everyone.  I thought I would give this a try myself.  I am having a nice time this summer going to auctions with my friend Ralph and growing my very own tomatoes for the first time in my life.  I am really proud of them.  I am enjoying my children, my grandchidlren and my great-grandchildren.  Happy summer everyone!

OK, so I'll give this a try.  I was told recently that people like me, who so closely resenbly George Clue Knee, have serious problems communicating by computer.  So, Linda Lu, are you going back to that 15 inch waistline?

Got an E-MAIL from Mike Hellenthal  while back.  He remembered my teaching him to dance before a prom back in the olden days, and he and his wife can still cut a rug.  It was really great to hear that.

Next Sat. Janet and I are going to a concert in Burlington (some rock and roll geezer from our day), then we're going Moose dancing  (dancing at the Moose Club).  Actually, a rain dance would be more appropriate!

Linda, Janet and I and some friends went to the Purple Cow in Alexandria Mo.  reccently. What a HOOT!  Had the frog legs and 2 Lipitor after.  Do you and Larry ever go there?

Later!

Charlie

Linda Kirchner (Schrader)

Hey Charlie.......WOW 15" sounds awesome, I think it was 18", as I remember. You would not believe it, but since I've retired, I've been going thru boxes, and I DID find some clothes from HS. My Mom used to make lots of clothes for me, esp pleated skirts. If you remember the pic of us in the yearbook, our senior year out in the center area of school, I FOUND THAT SKIRT!!!!! Unbelievable!!! If I remember right, I had on white sunglasses, too. Seems like just yesterday!!! Not sure I want to admit keeping it all those years. Will get my yearbook and chek it out and let you know for sure!!!

As far as the Purple Cow....I thought it was in MO. I hear Susie-G talk about it on the radio....think her son runs it. We do go the Brewery in Warsaw occasionally.

Hope you and Janet have a great time dancing, at least she won't step on your toes!!!

Great to hear from you.......write more often...........Linda

I corrected the info. about the Purple Cow in Alexandria Mo.  I wasn't having a senior moment, I am having a senior decade.

OOOOKKKKKK, it can snow any day now!!!

Had heat stroke once and that's enough, don't want it again!!! First time, was summer of '96.... took Connie Lou to KY for an Everly Bros. contest. Had to sign a waver that I didn't want to go to the hosp. by ambulance.....would have missed the concert, duh. That's a no-brainer. Plus the hosp. was in the next town!!!

How is everyone beating the heat, other than just staying inside........

Linda

Martha Waters (Krueger)

Sorry to hear about Connie McPherson.  I am glad I had the opportunity to visit with Connie at our last reunion.  We used to have fun, along with some other gals (and sometimes, guys) cruising the main drag, and just cruising, especially in my dad's '59 convertible.

I am updating on this site again as per the notice.  I guess since I am getting up there in age, the time just flies by especially when I am having fun so that months pass since the last updates.

In June I traveled in my little RV thru the Arkansas hills down to Hot Springs, visitng some beautiful (free & half price) national parks.  Floated on the Buffalo River--FUN!.  Of course, I was alone, sure wish I could find someone who likes to travel in order to be able share it all with.

Then at the end of June,  I took a most unusual & exciting bus tour visiting many SW National parks.  This was no typical bus tour (tho I have never been on one, but have heard of them.)

The bus company out of Rolla MO., picked us up at our doors and flew us to San Francisco where their bus picked us up and drove us eastward visiting parks like Yosemite, Sequoia, Zion, Grand Canyon, and more than I can list here.  There were only 15 passengers with 2 tables and 3 couches in the back and a hostess/cook who always made our hot lunches.

It was for 11 days for $1180, superb hotels each nite with breakfasts.  I didn't have to do any of the driving for a change, and since we were a small group, we all had fun getting acquainted and making new friends.  We laughed a LOT as we watched the scenery or hiked into the parks.  The courches were great for those power naps.

I liked it so well that I have signed up for two more of their trips this fall, one to the NW National Parks in Sept and one to view Lighhouses and fall trees and Niagra Falls and Canada in Oct.  Same price.  They fly us to Portland Oregon, to get on the bus for the first one and we tour to Portland Maine for the 2nd trip & we fly from Portland ME.

Their attitude is to serve their customers and to be flexible. For example, the fires in Colorado closed some parks while we were on tour, so instead we got to see other parks that were just as beautiful.  I like being picked up and dropped off at the door.

I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to drive and doesn't want to travel in a regular bus tour with 50 other people.and who doesn't like being herded & on a tight time schedule?

You can look them up if you are so incline:

USA Tours - Rolla, MO

I am not getting paid for recommending them.  :)

Hey Martha:  Great to hear about your travels and it sounds like lots of fun. The only thing I can really talk about this summer is my broken collar bone. I fell down like a big ox and broke my left collar bone and being left handed it was a huge pain in the "you know what". It has been a hot and very dry summer here in Fort Madison.

In lieu of the death of our classmate Connie McPherson Kramer I think we all better enjoy the "heck" out of each day we can walk and talk. Take a lesson from Martha and have fun in life. My hat is off to you Martha.

Also, congrats to Patsy and Bob, Karan and Gene, and Georgia and Ed for celebrating their 50th Anniversaries. What an achievement. I wish more of you classmates would write in on the message forum. It fun to hear what you are doing. Take care and try to enjoy the rest of the summer.
