Charlie LaFrenz
Hello everybody and some of you other people!
Recently Janet and I were in Washington D.C., and before we went, I got in touch with Alexandra (Sandy) Keith. Sandy and her husband John live Fairfax Station, Va. which isn’t too far from D.C., and we made arrangements to meet for dinner. They picked us up at our hotel, and we went to an amazing restaurant. Sandy and I both brought our yearbooks which we used to help guide us through the last 55 years.
It gives me a great deal of pleasure to tell you all that, in my opinion, Sandy Keith is probably the most interesting person from our graduating class. During the war when I was stationed in Bangkok, David Schleidt sent a letter with a newspaper article about Sandy being attached to the U.S. Embassy in Saigon. During dinner she mentioned she had spent 2 years in the Peace Corps, stationed in Northern Thailand. She said that she eventually resigned her position with the Foreign Service because of what was happening during the war, returned to the States, and went to law school. She is now retired from practicing law, but does pro bono work helping immigrants, people wrongly convicted of crimes, and now helping people of need with their taxes.
There is so much more to our fascinating classmate, and Janet and I look forward to meeting Sandy and John on our future trips to D.C. When we returned home, in an email, Sandy spoke of interest in possible joining us in 2 years. After this brief get together I have become a fan. Like many who have accomplished much and still do good works, Sandy is very understated, and has the class to be hesitant about speaking of her contributions. Of our many trips to D.C. our evening with John and Sandy will be one of the most memorable.
Some of you may remember Sandy’s younger sister Michelle (Mimi) Keith. She lives in N.Y. City and has written books on interior design. On the table next to me is a copy of her book, “Designers Here And There Inside The City And Country Homes Of Top Decorators”. Also written on the cover is a brief bio…Michele Keith is a freelance writer based in N.Y. City. Her work has appeared in numerous magazines and newspapers, including the N.Y. Times, Departures, Traditional Home, New York Spaces and O, The Oprah Magazine. Her previous books include, Country Living Easy Makeover, and Great Country French Style.
In conclusion, Sandy, if you are listening, please correct any errors I’ve made, and please tell us more about Alexandra Keith!
Best regards to the class of 61!
