Sharon Tincher (Scholl-Nabulsi)

Hi Linda:  The luncheon was great and the next on is the last Friday of September at the Palms. The people there are as follows:  Carmen, Karan F., Sally, T., Betty O., Linda M., Sharon S., Mary F., Bonnie M., and Georgia M. I sure do hope I didn't miss any one. Oh, also me! We had a great time and the Pizza Hut was great as usual. I ate too much but what else is new! Take care and we all keep praying. See you this month!

Hello to everyone !  It's been so long since I've been on the message forum, but I was glad to read some of the summer messages this morning.  Sharon's email about considering a different "destination" for our 55th Reunion prompted me to see what's been happening with everone lately.  Gee......your monthly luncheons sure sound like lots of fun and well attended also !  Guess the retired men from our class don't "do lunch"..........too involved with their golf games or other hobbies.........plus, if they are like Bill, they need to work in an all important afternoon nap in the recliner !

I'm a golf "widow" this week.  Bill is in Myrtle Beach, SC with another 7 fellows from our neighborhood that he plays golf with regularly here in Cypress Landing.  Two of them have Time Share Condos there, so they are enjoying themselves.........6 straight days of golf on 6 different courses.  Bill had another steroid injection in his left knee last Tuesday before he left Saturday, to get him through the normal pain.  He's looking at a knee replacement this winter, probably after Christmas.  We have plans for a Florida trip before Thanksgiving, Marco Island and Key West, so don't want to mess up that.  Also, we will be stopping through Jacksonville, FL for 2 nights on either end, as our younger son, Joe, and his wife and our 2 granddaughters moved there this past April.  The girls, Aila, soon to be 8 years old in October, and Tatum, going to be 5 in January, are the sunshine in our lives.  We've seen them 3 times since the move.......they came up here for Bill's 70th birthday in June, and we've been there twice this summer.  They lived in Charleston, SC for almost 10 years, which was such an easy drive.........this one takes 9+ hours........UGH !  Our older son, Jay, still lives in Greenville, NC, about 25 miles from us.  He's recently taken a job with the Vidant Hospital in Greenville, in their Clinical Chemistry Lab........we are praying for his success, as he struggles so much with his mental illness challenges.

Bill and I continue to love North Carolina..........hardly seems possible that we have been here 10 years now !  We are fully immersed in our community and have no regrets our our retirement choice.  Bill stays very engaged.......golfs at least 3 times a week, sings tenor in our church choir (even solos on occasion !), is Chairman of the Beaufort County United Way Board of Directors, and plays bridge with me in a couple neighborhood groups.  I sadly gave up golf 2 years ago, due to stenosis and other issues in my lower back, but stay active in other ways.  I'm also in our church choir (alto, but NO solos), active in an EMMAUS WALK Sisters' Reunion Group in the area, play in 3 different bridge clubs, and volunteer at the Department of Social Services in Beaufort County in the Foster Children's program, as a community Guardian Ad Litum for the foster child. Some of the cases in such a poor county here in eastern NC, really break your heart !  Children are the innocent victims of their parent's choices, yet the goal is always to rehab the parent and reunite the family......it's tough to know when to terminate parental rights.

I've written more than I intended and hope everyone isn't bored by my ramblings.  We don't have any specific plans to get back to Fort Madison in the near future, with all of family in the area deceased, except Bill's sister Jean Hoffmeister.  We may try to next summer and go on down to Kansas to see Bill's sister, Trudy Hesse, and my sister, Barb Buckley.

Everyone stay healthy and enjoy each day we wake up on the green side of the grass !

Sharon, I love the idea of going somewhere away from Fort Madison  for our 55th Reunion,  but I honestly have no suggestions as to where.  After 9 months of unemployment I finally got a full-time job as an Administrative Assistant.  I love the job, but the brain is really getting a workout.

Thanks for sending all the emails informing of us of the status of our classmates.  It is appreciated!

Hope that everyone has a wonderful Fall!

Linda - Happy Birthday somewhat late.  Sept 15 is a major deadline for my tax business and have been working night and day to meet the deadline on Monday.

You are right, God is good!

Marcia...thanks so much. I really don't feel or act older, but probably look older. I guess it happens to everyone sooner or later. Hope things go smoothly for you soon. Take care of yourself...Linda Lu

OK Sharon, don't faint!!!  First I'm so happy you are doing our next reunion and already thinking about it.  I know the last reunion, keeping this web page updated and keeping us all in the loop about everyone throughout the year is a lot of work but we all appreciate your hard work.  I think Chicago or Kansas City would be a great place to have our next one but I also like coming back to Fort Madison, so guess I'm really not much help.

We've had a busy year traveling all over and I love it.  Australia and New Zealand are beautiful.  Feb. I took my granddaughter, Taylor to New York for her 18th birthday.  We had a ball.  She started college this year and the twins, Dani and Cassidy started high school.  Where does the time go?

The end of July, Doug had a huge surprise birthday party for me and what a surprise it was.  The Family was all here as well as 4 of my high school friends, Sharon Nabulsi, Sandy Brown, Meiling Shackelton and of course Janet Vaughn.  It was great having everyone here.

I know whatever you plan will be great as it is just fun to see everyone again, no matter where we are.

Darla

Hi Everyone:

It is really great to read the message forum and also to get responses about the upcoming 55th, did I say 55th? That cannot be possible! Anyhow I have suggestions all over the board from Branson, to Lake of the Ozarks, to Chicago or Kansas City to New Orleans but most want to come back home to FM. I will continue to monitor the responses for the next few months and wonder if there is anyone in any one of those cities mentioned above that would like to take the bull by the horns and help host one and plan the weekend. I can still do the emails from here to everyone from our website. If not I feel like it will be right here in good old Fort Madison. I am not sure how many of you know that Kay McWhorter Hoenig passed away this last year as did one of our favorite teachers Bill Jerome. I know Dodie Jerome would love to hear from any of you and her address is 331 Avenue E., Fort Madison, Iowa 52627.

Well, that is about it so keep those cards and letters coming in with all your suggestions.

As ever, Sharon

I have been so busy with Sept 15 tax filing deadlines I haven't had a chance to respond to the "where to have the 55th reunion".  Ft Madison is the home I grew up in, got married, had babies, got divorced and left.  My parents passed away many years ago but it is still "home".  I can visit their graves and my sister who lives in Burlington when I visit.  It is nice to drive around the town and remember good and bad times but memories are good to have.  Going home to Ft Madison also reenforces why I left!

I will attend the reunion  no matter where it is held but my preference is "home" in Fort Madison.

Many of us have reached the 7th decade of our lives and it is a new beginning in another stage of life.  I am enjoying being 70 except for an achy pain here or there.  I am as active as I was in my 60's.  Still working full time with my tax practice, traveling as a sales rep for our software company and enjoying my new puppy, Muffin, a 4 1/2 mo Boston Terrier.  No retirement in my future!

I am already planning my after April 15th tax deadline getaway.  I am going to Montego Bay, Jamaica for a week's vacation at the Ritz Carleton.  It is a lovely place to just relax.  I love to travel and hope to do more.

Keep the Message Forum going.  I love to read the messages.

Very nice luncheon today at the Palm's...haven't been to a luncheon since June. Really miss seeing everyone. Was so good to see Carmen, Sharon S..Mary V., Sharon N., Sally, Carole, Mary C., Karan, Betty & Nancy. Hope to make the next get together in October at Vel's Amigos. Sometimes our lives change & we have to adapt to so many changes, some good & some not so good. I struggle with letting go of things I have no control of, but it's getting easier. I guess at times like this you find how much trust & faith you really have. God has carried me thru life so far & I know He won't leave me now & I can't give up on Him either!!! God is good. I'm thankful He loves me.....take care of yourselves and your family. Live each day to the fullest...Linda Lu

HELLO CLASSMATES...how did the luncheon go last Fri.?? Saw Carole Wilson Sat. night in Nauvoo, at the Pumpkin Walk. Was surprised she was still here, but she told me she's leaving Thurs. for TX. Hope she has a safe trip down and a good winter in a warmer place.

WHY doesn't anyone write on here anymore?? Too busy w/life, not interested in any classmates & what's going on in their lives, too lazy?? I enjoy reading what everyone is doing, and keeping in touch w/classmates & friends. I know very well how easy it is to be busy w/your own life and problems, but I always check to see if someone has written anything new. It makes me sad to see nothing new for months, and just the same ones posting comments. If you check the forum, write a few lines to let others know you're still out there.....I'm finished complaining (at least for a while).

smileyHi Linda Lu and all, Yes, I think everyone is just too busy or don't think they have anything to say.  I know I don't have much to write about most of the time. BUT... I did return from Indianapolis after seeing my great granddaughter, Sophia Marie, on her 1st birthday.  She had quite a party and entertained us big time.  While there...we did a 4 generation picture...a good idea.

I've been busy since working outside putting my flower gardens to bed. I have huge trees that border my property...Sycamores...in particular.  Lots of leaf raking. It has ben a beautiful fall here with all our gorgeous trees in town...a lovely sight to behold!

I'm looking forward to our next luncheon as I've been unable to attent the last two.  And I know it...as I miss not having that monthly contact.

Hugs, Nancysmiley

I, too, enjoy reading the messages and so wish I could attend one of your lunches.

I think we all have very busy lives.   Now that Oct 15 filing deadline has passed for individual tax returns, it is time to re-group and starting gearing up for Tax Season 2014.

I am back on the seminar traveling, leaving for Houston tomorrow, SFO next week and driving from city to city in So CA thru January 2014 with a few trips to No CA..

My life is very full of  work/seminars/traveling. etc. My biggest complaint is not enough time to do anything just for fun.  I would love to fly over to Kauai for a few days but no time left with a schedule of planned events.  Love my life and wouldn't change it.

Happy Holidays

YEAHHHH...some results!!! Congratulations Nancy on your celebration. And Marsha, always interesting reading what you're still doing, good for you, so happy you enjoy it all. Might be a little envious.

Patsy called me last night and it's snowing up there already...Inver Heights, MN. Am looking fwd to snow here, I love it!!!

Now that the ball is rolling again, let's keep it going. Love to read about what ever classmates are doing, even if it's minor and they think it's boring. You never know when you might have the same interests as another classmate. Life changes quickly and we all need to share more w/each other and keep in contact. Who's next?

Hope Carole Wilson made it to TX safe and sound & she has a good winter there. See you next spring, girlfriend. Anyone else going south for a while??

Linda Lu   (which is not my middle name. Got that nickname our sophomore year in HS, that song was popular then)

I enjoy reading the messages too.

I usually don't have anything to write about unless you want to hear about my cats chewing the charger cord for my new phone in half.

Going to send in for the ornament in memory of my husband.  Hospice has a new one every year. If any of you don't know, these people really come through when you need them.  I am still so greatful they were there when Preston was so sick.

As some of you know, I ran my car through the garage this summer.  Everything is all fixed now and I have a new car.

Ralph Lewis, who I brought to the reunion, and I are not together any more.  That is a long story which I don't want to discuss.

My youngest daughter remarried her first husband and we all had a good time at that wedding.  There's my year.

Linda...you wrote a whole year's worth of info. That was great.  Enjoyed it all. Hope you write more!!!

Always felt guilty for not supporting you more, when you were dealing w/Preston's illness. I knew he was sick, just didn't realize how serious it all was. Was disconnected, not close or near, or in town. No one has any idea what loved ones go through when spouses are ill...until you go through something similar yourself. I apologize for not being more involved during your time of stress, Didn't call or send a card.

I can say I've enjoyed getting to know you better through our monthly lunches. It's fun when we all get together. Brings back so many memories. I remember sitting right behind you in History w/Mr Repplinger in that awesome ancient old Jr. High building. Remember every Thurs. they served chocolate cake?? Not sure how or why I remember that detail.

Wonder what you or anyone else remembers.....One of the other Linda's in the class
