Sharon, thank you for changing my email. Hard to get rid of AOL but gmail is better for me.

Happy to hear that Florida properties are OK.

Re Ken Burns's VietNam, I too am glued to the series. Bill, thank you for your service and thank you for sharing your views. I eagerly await Episode 6 about the Tet Offensive and aftermath.

I arrived in Saigon right after that. I worked in the American Embassy from 1968-1969, and had no idea how horrific the fighting was. I was so naive; I thought I could act like a Peace Corps volunteer, ride around on my bike, teach English, and eat in French restaurants. My job was Chief of the Embassy's Non-immigrant Visa Section, where I handed out student and tourist visas to just about anybody who wanted out of that place. Before I was posted there I had participated in several protests here in the US and was vehemently against the war, but that didn't stop the State Dept from sending me there. Seems to me we still haven't learned the lessons of that war. Maybe Ken Burns will help.

Dear Classmates,

Charlie is waay too kind-- I was blushing as I read his message. We did have a wonderful dinner in DC with him and his wife Janet. Talk about accomplishments--Janet has a pilot's license and is on several educational boards. They come to DC frequently to visit children and grandchildren. Charlie and Janet have a gorgeous home in Keokuk--they showed us photos, and they have traveled around the world. I'm so encouraged by this meeting that I am signing up for Branson. It sounds terrific. Again thanks to Sharon for keeping us all connected.
